Dream and Memory

I dreamed last night that I was taking care of a baby elephant that was so small it fit into the palm of my hand. I was so charmed by the little fellow that I carried it around all day and wanted to take it home with me. I thought it would be great to paint its portrait.

Years ago, when I was in my teens, I went to a carnival where one tent show advertised "amazing" tiny animals that had to be seen to be believed. There was a large painted banner that showed a human hand holding several tiny animals. Well, I couldn't pay the twenty-five cent entrance fee fast enough to see this exhibit! Once inside I saw: An ordinary pony, a calf, and an unremarkable dog. Ha ha, the joke was on me. So, I stood there for a few minutes, watching the pony and calf munching hay, and the dog snoozing on a blanket. I wish I had a photo of that painted banner.
