"You'll never find your wisdom in someone else's story." ~ The Belle Brigade

And so this part of my story begins.

I left Kansas City feeling anxious and wound up. I had not really slept well for almost a week. Lots of crazy dreams and restless energy. I was tense trying to get everything done that I needed to do before I left home for a month and also packing for the longest time I have ever been away from my home in my adult life.

Once I hit the road towards my parent's home in Lebanon, Mo. it took me about two hours to actually catch up with my own body. I began to listen to my audiobook "The Eyre Affair" by Jaspar Fforde. It is delightful and clever and helped me to calm my mind. I love audiobooks as I am driving.

By the time I got deeper into the Ozarks, I was able to really look at the scenery and I relaxed into the GREEN. Dusk is my favorite time of the day anyway and in the summer as the sun sets over the sea of trees I was able to experience my first moment of real deep peace.

I have spent the last two days visiting my parents. It has been lovely.  My mother and I and one of her friends went  up to Versailles Mo to have the Queen's Tea in a Victorian tea house. I will post a lovely picture when I get somewhere that I can download those first pictures. They had so many different teas and mine was blackberry and maple. We had petit fours and lovely tea sandwiches and desserts. A fun way to start the experience.

Also in this little town I found my travel gnome. As we were entering a little antique gift shop I said "I need to find my gnome!" and we walked in and Sandy says "Well, here he is." There sitting by the door was a dozen or more awesome gnomes.

I introduce to you my travel companion. He has yet to whisper to me his name...though my dad calls him Ulric.

Mom and I watched "The Switch" with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman and it didn't totally suck at all. I also gave her a perm and tomorrow we are going to visit my friends lately from Diana's Grove, Cynthea and Patricia and choose a dog for my parents. Mom is really ready for one and there is nowhere better to get a dog than from their dog rescue. I will post pictures of said pup on the next entry.

I am figuring out my technology so some of my posts/pictures may be experiments. I am grateful to have you join me.

Tuesday I leave for Memphis....so friends....where should I go there? Any ideas for food or fun? I will be visiting my dear friend Patrick and his lovely wife, Lindsay and meeting my darling boy, baby Jayce for the first time. But I also want to experience some Memphis.

I will be listening to "Walking in Memphis" for sure. I downloaded all the songs you recommended and look forward to enjoying them.

That should do for a beginning post. I am nervous about missing my family and pets and friends. I am excited about my adventures.

What I am most happy with so far is my ability to really be in the moment. To be aware of the beauty around me and feel my soul settle into my body and begin to learn to slow down and stay there and be present. That is the first gift of this journey.

Love to you all.
