Wow, when I thought Gaia couldn't be knocked out of first on my list, I watched Mebius... and I am very happy for it... ^_^
One thing I noticed right away was that they seemed eager to toss the crew together right away, even if it was to save rabbits. ^_^ I was amused to see Kintaros' first host as part of the main cast as Teppei the Kaijuu-otaku, and curious to see how they would do the anniversary show. As the first ep went along, I was glad I started it, as this show piqued my interest from the start :D
I hadn't thought much of Ryuu, though I felt sorry for him that he lived while his captain sacrificed his life, I knew he was gonna be the core of the new GUYS, but just didn't know how much he'd be my favorite character until he started screaming at Mebius for hiding behind buildings during the kaijuu-battle. Even so, Mirai approached him and asked to be on the team. I knew I was going to like Mirai, but I'm amused at how Ryuu also wormed his way into my fav characters.
And yes, I admit I'm a Ryuu/Mirai shipper... But it was so easy to see in the show, what with Ryuu draping his arm around Mirai's shoulders at times, or Mirai going out of his way to help out Ryuu(esp when he Henshined into Mebius). The others seemed to ship it too, esp George and Marina(the ep where Yapool possessed Ryuu didn't help... ^__^, even with how serious it got). Didn't help they kept glomping each other and all, even in the later eps... ^_^
And then, the revelation came, when the team learned that Mirai was in fact Mebius. I LOVED how that arc was done, and how Ryuu went through the range of emotions as he was the first to find out and then searched for Mirai. I also liked how the rest of the team learned, and didn't go off too much, until Mebius was nearly killed, in which case they yelled at him not to give up.
I really liked that even though the GUYS crew knew he was Mebius, nothing really changed. Oh sure, they knew and expected his Henshins, even encouraging him to go at times. But they still treated him the same, and I think tried to help him when they could. But he was THEIR Ultraman and crew-mate so no way were they going to let him get killed even at the risk of their own lives. I think the ep that got me most(well really any of the last Four Generals or whatever since that was their goal to dissuade him from fighting and protecting earth) was the Melfias one where he had used mind control on everyone to make Mebius out to be the enemy, but it didn't work as Mirai was being Mirai and no one could exactly forget him(plus the tears he shed caused them grief when they shook off the hypnosis, they'd promised not to let him get hurt, and they'd done it to him even if indirectly...).
In another thing that I really like about Mebius is that since it's an anniversary show, they brought back many of the previous actors and Ultramen. Esp four of the Showa-actors, Hayata(Ultraman), Moboroshi(UltraSeven), Gou (whom I really liked from Jack), and Seiji (Ultraman Ace), along with Leo, 80, and Zoffy. They brought in other Ultramen like Ultra-father and Ultra-mother which was pretty cool too, since they came in at times to help Mebius and GUYS.
One other really cool factor I liked was Tsurugi/Hikari, and the fact that he'd taken over Ryuu's captain's body first for revenge, and then as he came to grips with the feelings left over as well as Ryuu's dogged persistence Tsurugi softened his heart and became Hikari. I was so happy when Ryuu was given the Brace, after hearing Mirai scream when the jet crashed. The ending was very cool, though a bit sad as Mebius had to leave Ryuu and the rest of GUYS to return home. I liked that Ryuu became the new captain, and would love to see some of how he would lead his own team of GUYS Crew.
I feel like watching Mebius again, it's one of those series where you can just jump right into things and watch the story unfold again... ^_^ I probley should finish Max(am very amused that Nakai Kazuya (One Piece's Zoro) is Max's seiyuu) but unlike Mebius, the characters just arn't meshing too well for me. I think I'm watching it for Kaito mostly(and Lily is kinda cool), but it's not holding my interest as much... I do like that they brought in Hayata-actor and Fuji-actress in for supporting the team though.
I think after I watch the eps on keyhole tomorrow, I'll post about Gokaiger and OOO. I'm very curious to see what kind of character Ikari Gai is, and how the twist in OOO plays out... :/
