It basically went like this: 1. End of December: LJ released a new update. (new default comment page, new layout that gave people head aches, no more comment subject lines, new icon selection tool that wouldn't load for a lot of users, etc. etc.) Everyone hated it. On Twitter one of LJ's top Russian men mocked the people who complained about the loss of subject lines, which they pointed out was of great importance to a lot of communities. More people complained about the new release. LJ did nothing. Even more people complained about the new release. LJ posted a statement but did nothing.
2. Dreamwidth no longer needed invitation codes that week (or maybe it's a new thing now forever? IDK). Cue a lot of people moving to DW because LJ didn't listen to them or seemed to do anything about the complaints.
3. January: an article was published on LJ's new strategy which basically said that they're going to do everything to try and attract new users and fuck the old, faithful users.
4. Yesterday: LJ posted another statement petting themselves on the back and asking people to bear with them, and expect more "surprises".

Yup, that's the short version.

Yeah, I've noticed the changes lately. I've always had a DW, but didn't really do much with my DW account.
