Okay, so I've been skimming chapter summaries of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' on the internet for a friend who's trying to read and keeps falling asleep over the damn book (no kidding there), and I got to the flogging/ belt work dichotomy.
And I had two thoughts skimming through those:
1) Isn't flogging actually supposed to hurt in a BDSM lifestyle? If it doesn't, I just wonder if you're not doing it wrong. That being said, BDSM is more about control, I guess, so the pain is always relative depending on the persons involved. Maybe a flogging can be mild for a more realistic 'normal' relationship. IDK.
2) When she challenges him to do his worst, what was she imagining would happen? The internet exists for a reason- type in BDSM and things pop out at you! Being whipped with a belt is one thing. I want to know if she got the leather end or the buckle end. And then I want to know how she didn't expect it. And then I want to know why, after a flogging- which insinuates that she knows he likes a) inflicting some form of mild to substantial pain, and b) wants to inflict this pain on her- she doesn't expect to get belt whipped?
At this rate I'm gonna have to read the damn books. If I can ever get my hands on them. Sigh.
