I'm beginning to see manga everywhere! /0\

Okay, so the Alec Devlin series is a nice enough teenaged fiction. Nothing close to the depth and sheer epic detail of something like the 'Hunger Games' series or even Doctorow's 'Little Brother'. The characters are simply drawn, the plots are more build-up than solution but it's got good action, people actually get hurt and die and when things blow up, they don't do it cleanly.

To give you a bit of background: Alec Devlin starts out as 15 in the first book and ends up as 17 in the third (and so far last). He is English, living in 1920s Egypt, moves off to Mexico in the second book and ends up in Crete in the third. He is accompanied by Coates, the family valet, his father is a diplomat who is understanding but busy off-set, his mother dies just before the first book starts, and he meets adventurer and mildly damaged American called Ethan Wade who was once a cowboy and still dresses like one.

Most of the time, I look at stuff and think, 'Huh, I wonder if there's fic for this?' which immediately morphs into, 'Huh, this could be an interesting springboard into slash'. Currently, I keep coming up against bits in the second book where I think, 'Huh, I would love to see this drawn up in a yaoi manga.'

I'm a hopeless case. ^_^

yaoi, books, humour, fanfic, slash, opinion, sad
