I am finished with Burlington County College. My final Graphic Design project went swimmingly - and I think my professor was impressed with the creativity of the concept (see my webpage for details). I think my final Anatomy and Physiology practicum went well - or at least good enough for a passing grade in the class. And my final Portfolio class review was stellar - and took all of five minutes. The only thing is that there was a small instance where the school was not going to count one of my old classes from my transcript but I think I have that all straightened out. I’m just waiting to hear back from a certain office.
For now, I am still working ‘part-time full-time’ at the Atomica Design Group. What this means is that I am there every day open to close, but I am still not a full time member of the staff. I don’t know when or if this will change, but we’ll see. Right now I am learning some of the pre-press operations, and while it’s a complicated process with a wide variety of program details and information to know, it’s something else to challenge myself with.
The big thing for me is that I put in my two weeks notice at the Tavern this past Sunday. I know, I know - I most likely should have waited until something was more certain at Atomica. That was the plan. But that work at the office has been fairly steady and with the Tavern included that means working long hours seven days a week. And that was just was going to grind me down really fast. That’s not just me being lazy and wanting weekends to myself (and I had to convince myself of that), it’s actually a realistic assessment. What really cemented the decision was that if Atomica decides tomorrow that they don’t want me around anymore I seriously can’t see myself working a ton of hours at the Tavern - which I guess was the reason I was sticking around the place, as a safety net. And frankly, with all the changes in the Tavern (positive that many of them are) it just really feels like it’s a good time to move on. Hey, at least I stayed long enough to help with Mother’s Day. I’ll miss the extra money it brings in, but hopefully things will branch out elsewhere.
In other news Atomica Design Group has a good working relationship with the Running Dog Café that just opened downstairs from the office. Atomica helped make their signs and such. So as part of the deal the artists that work there get to feature their artwork on the walls of the café month to month. I signed up for June. To this end I am working on a series of pen & ink sketches. I wanted to do some original stuff and so far I’ve been pretty on task about it. I’m kinda excited at the idea of having artwork hanging on a wall in a café, though most folks there are very blasé about it.
Also, the hunnie muffin is awesome.
But those who know her knew that already.
That’s it for now.
Carry on.
