I got an ad in the mail the other day for Halloween Horror Nights. It's a nice ad. I hear people have been complaining about the billboard in Orlando (same as the ad) being "too scary." Heh. (I've been trying to find a copy online, but my internet connection has been painful the past couple of days. (
Here's the best I could find.)
Anyway, I have this ad sitting here on my desk, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. We don't have tickets yet (the local stores haven't started stocking the $30 off Florida resident Coke packs here yet), but soon... *rubs hands together*
Hey,
druidfox, PLEASE tell me that they learned from their mistakes last year and plan to actually have more than three street actors this year. The ads are promising that this year will be completely terrifying, but, you know, they say that every year.
I'm really bummed I AGAIN don't have the time to work there this year. I guess I shouldn't be bothered that I'm too busy with web work to travel to Orlando to work for barely above minimum wage, but just DAMN that was a fun job. (Here's me the year I worked: [

In any case, this, and all the local haunted houses, are the highlight of my year. One of the better ones locally told us last year they're ALWAYS desperate for volunteers, so we might see if we can get in touch with them. K wants to work one as well, and I have a feeling they'd love for him to do some fire-breathing. Barring that, he'd have as least as much fun jumping out and scaring people as I do.
Ever since I was a LITTLE child, I've loved haunted houses. (Anyone remember when churches would put them on? I'm not talking about the Hell House crap, I'm talking about real haunted houses. They were always the best ones, too. I even remember going to a Halloween party at my parents' (southern Baptist at that) church that had a haunted house, psychics, all that. No idea when opinion shifted that it was wrong... Of course, this was also back when the actors could actually touch you.)
I ALWAYS wanted to work in one. Getting to work at HHN a few years back was a dream come true for me. We want to put one on ourselves, honestly. We actually talked last year about getting together with one of the little cities near us and seeing if they would let us help sponsor something if they would help get it together. But, well, we're broke. Some day. Of course, any haunted house we'd do would be like a combination of Saw and Hostel. I think K and I (especially now that we have R around) could make anything HHN does look like Disney. I'm not sure the world is quite ready for our ideas. ;-)
But going is the next best thing. I'm blowing the hell out of our budget with this, but I always do. Tickets plus front-of-the-line passes (trust me, don't even bother going without them) plus hotel. Another nice things about working there - ticket discounts. (Hey Fox, care to share? ;-)
I think there's more than a little Morticia Addams in me. I wish every month was October. One day I'm going to have the money to travel the country and hit the top 10 scariest that Rue Morgue lists every year. Some of those sound mind-blowing.
