So last weekend was the great turkey hunt. Me n' the Puse cruised down to his farm by Winona in hopes of baggin some birds.
Of course things never really go quite as you plan them. It ended up being bitterly cold and extremely windy. The turkeys weren't too happy about this. They shut up and didnt move around much. This left me and KC with frustration and empty game bags.
Saturday and Sunday we awoke at 4:00 AM and after eating some microwavable breakfasts, known as "shit starters" we headed out into the field. After a brisk ATV ride we would plop down into our blind and wait for sun up. We'd sit, call, listen and hope that a turkey would come into our field. After it became unbearable we would leave the blind and activly walk and call in hopes of locating some gobblers.
This involved covering a lot of ground, including some insane hills. These were no ordinary hills. They were long, steep and very treacherous. I'm surprised one of us didnt get hurt.
Our efforts only yielded the sight of one turkey which was out of range. We also saw a few Egrets which we mistook for turkeys and almost shot.
Though we came home bird-less it was still a fun trip. We're looking at making it a tradition. Even if we dont kill anything it'll still be a good way to keep in touch.
Well, I guess I should start writing my engineering scholarship essay. What fun!
