So, I saw Sonic Youth last night.

Fucking unbelievable. The best show I have ever been too.

To start things off, we saw Steve from SY before we even went in the venue. Then, I bought a rad Goo shirt that I have been meaning to get forever. It was a seated show (well, to being with).., becuase it took place in an old theatre, known as the Academy of Music to any Northamptoners reading. We took seats no more then twenty feet away from the stage, and tolerated the first opener Dredd Foole. He wasnt bad, but his songs continued on a little too long, causing me to drift off into sleep through out his set.

Then, Cat Power (Chan Marshall) came on and did an outstanding performance. Her voice was incredible, even more perfect than on her albums. She switched off between guitar and piano every couple of songs, to keep things varied. I called out for "I Dont Blame You", and she played it, which pleased me to no end. It was great...I would have bought the 22 dollar ticket just for her, but of course then the best part of the night came when...

...Sonic Youth came out! Their set consisted primarily of Sonic Nurse material (It was the second time I have seen them start with I Love You Golden Blue, which is a perfect opener) but they threw in some older stuff, such as Bull in the Heather, Rain on Tin, and the two encores Shadow of a Doubt and Empty Page. About halfway through, Kim invited us all to come stand down in front, in the orchestra. Thurston responded that he thought it was a fire hazard, and the venue would not appreciate it much, but then said "Sorry to be a cop.....oh, you know what, fuck it. Do whatever you want." So of course I was the first one to jump up and run down, picking a spot right underneath Thurston the entire rest of the show. During one song, Jim looked up, saw me and waved! Afterward they ended the performance, I managed to snag a setlist off of the stage.

Content with my evening, I went outside to see if I could find the band and compliment them on their rocking show. Jim was outside smoking a cigarette, right next to Thurston who was standing in the back door, so I praised them for the concert, and then bumped into Cat Power and talked with her for awhile with Andrew. She was geniunely nice, and both of us told her she has the most beautiful voice we have ever heard (not a stretch of truth by any means!) and she seemed really thankfull to hear it. I told her I was the guy who called out the request, and she told me that she doesnt play that song anymore so she was sorry if she screwed it up. She didnt, by the way. As I was walking off to Andrew's car, I saw Coco Hayley, Kim and Thurstons daughter hanging around, so I said hi and shook hands. The whole show was put on as a benefit for the Greenfield Center School, where Coco goes, and all the teachers were there (one gave Andrew a free shirt.) in the crowd.

Ok, Im done bieng obsessive. Thanks for listening. Long live music.

P.S. Boy Sets Fire on thursday night, and then Mudhoney on saturday. Wicked.
