Sketchings

So, as I find myself with time on my hands, I return to old projects. xanndrax asked me once to draw a portrait of her 7th Sea character. Sort of a commission-thing. And over a year later, I've started sketching. (Never ask me for things if you expect them in a timely fashion.)

After a bit of debate, I decided to mimic Milo Manara's (If you don't know who he is, then I must be a hornier geek than you. Fact.) illustrative style because, well, he's a famous Italian (comic book) artist and her character hails from the game equivalent. Also it helps me break my standard face-shape, which is all wrong for the look. And his girls' hair does that lovely art nouveau thing I adore so. I've been meaning to incorporate it. I spent a bit of time looking at the lovely Ingrid Bergman and her progeny as well. Certainly the faces match up. Whew. Something like a good choice then.

The only possible concern really is that he doesn't draw noses. Not so much. And really I could add more definition, but am hoping to make it more distinct through color rather than line. Anyway, we'll see. It's been entertaining. I even mocked up something with a bit of ink and color. Perhaps I'll post some scans tomorrow. I think I've gone a bit sleepy.

Oh, and if I seem to be not busy, I may be nipping off to Japan in April. Must get in touch with the appropriate parties.

scans to come, milo manara, comic porn, sleepy kate, i do stuff sometimes, art, 7th sea portrait
