Then unexpected things happen that remind him of home so strongly he wants to curl into a ball and hide. Namely Elliot. He likes Elliot and finds the boy easy to get along with. He thinks his outbursts are hysterical and generally sees him as easy to get along with. Except for the whole Lacie thing. That bit of information blindsided him. Important informations from home were NOT supposed to come up here. It's not like the verbal sparring he enjoys with Vince either -- this was a straight shot into his Glen-issues, which are still a huge, raw, ugly wound.
So... he's pushing things back, and being careful not to let the important things come back to the surface again for a while. He isn't ready to deal with it, and he can't just disappear like he can in canon.

He was also a little confused when Oz said that he should go talk to Gil. He doesn't consider Gil to be his servant anymore. He's still incredibly fond of him and will borrow him occasionally, but he assumes that Gil sees Oz as his master so he doesn't get why Oz would want him to talk to him.

But in many ways, Oz is always afraid that whatever hold he has is tenuous and because the world sucks, things are likely to fall apart.
Also, Elliot has feelings for him and Oz adores Elliot. Elliot saved him! Elliot looks after him! Oz has always admired and loved Elliot a lot. So, for those feelings to be reciprocated threw him way off. But Oz has Doumeki and he's happy with Doumeki and he refuses to give that up, even if Doumeki would let him. So right now, he wants to make sure Elliot has everything he wants.
