Whoa

Jan 20, 2006 22:20

I haven't posted since October. That's about four months.
Do I get a prize?

So what has the boy achieved in these almost four months?
Uh.
Well.
You know.
Not so much.

Have you noticed how it's impossible to write an interesting post when returning from a longer absence from lj? Since you've been gone for so long, you have limited options. You can't just show up and go "I had carrots for lunch today, they were crunchy". You have to either give a quick recap, admit some big life change or have a great excuse:

"Wow, did I ever miss you guys! I've been out with bubonic plague for the last couple of months, and do I have some stories to tell you..."
"Sorry to have disappeared like that, but realizing that I was gay made me really question a few things, so I come back to you now not as Andrew, but Alaendaraunea, elf of the eleventh moon, druid of Midgard and grand dragon of the KKK."
or

"There was a lot of work there for a while, but that has settled down. I only work 40 hours a week now, which feels like a miracle, which is pathetic in itself. I start at 7:00 in the morning, which lets me go home at 3:30, which is nice. Apparently that hasn't made me able to do much good in the fields of writing or other general creativity, though. That first book is still in editing, and the second one is still in a barely-organized-notes limbo, although those notes are up to over 11,000 words. I also have 3,000 words for book three, 1,100 for book four, 700 for book five and 3,000 for book six, but that's some time down the line at the current rate. (Newly won Excel skills lets me calculate this rather exactly. At the current rate, book six will be ready for the first round of editing on April 13th, 2042).

The mandolins are in just about exactly the same state as they were. It is highly unlikely that any of you care much about that particular statement, except with a sigh of relief regarding the lack of updates on something you couldn't possibly be interested in. You'd better watch out though. This whole house purchase thing is going to leave me with wood working space. I fully expect to produce all sorts of stringed items in the near future.

The whole house thing... Yeah. Wow. Where do I even start with that? That's easy to answer, actually. I start with referring you to what K wrote about it. This is superflous, as you already read her journal, or you wouldn't be reading mine. But yeah, there it is. We now have two weeks of waiting before the move, and it's already driving us batty. Many, many, many more updates to follow, I'm sure."

You may guess which of the three most closely resembles my situation.
I shall venture to post again. I've missed talking to you all.

the neverending novel, the big update, frankfort
