Really, Ernie...didn't your mother ever tell you not to read
notes that weren't addressed to you? Somehow I don't think that examining messages stuck to the front door of the 6th year girls dormitory counts as official prefect business.
Justin does seem to be having one of those retroactive fits of panic, so I'd be happy to destroy the note for him. I'm wondering though--did he actually ask you to ask me, or are you just taking it upon yourself to do what you think is best for people again? Justin ought to know that he could ask me himself and I'd be happy to do whatever he wanted. It's sitting here on one of our end-tables; I'm not even sure if any of the other girls read it, since I haven't seen them around today. If he'd prefer to have it back in his hands, I can meet you two in the Common Room tonight.
Much as it pains me to agree with you about anything, I have to admit that I do think Justin can be a little too trusting at times. He hasn't got any sense of the need for self-defense. But really, if you can't trust your fellow Hufflepuffs, who can you trust? I'm sure that, when he's thinking straight, Justin knows that none of us would ever purposefully reveal anything he didn't want told. And we've always been accepting of differences; there's no reason why we wouldn't be accepting of this one. And I must say that I don't think it's right for you to go 'round saying what Justin ought and ought not to, as if you have some deep inner knowledge of how he ought to behave. I know you two are close, but you're not his bloody keeper, honestly.
