Ramen shops are Singaporeans favourite food, including me. I guess since Singaporeans just love noodles so much, that every good ramen place or newly opened, you just have to q for at leat 30 minutes. But some new ramen shops only have q-s during their first few honeymoon months, which means the place don't serve any good ramen. Only a few ramen shops that still has long q-s until now. A few of them (most famous ones in Singapore): Miharu (in Gallery Hotel), Santouka (Central) and Marutama (Central and Liang Court).
There is a new ramen shop that just opened in the Mandarin Gallery called Ippudo, it is very famous in Japan and NY, the owner is dubbed the King of Ramen. I have tried it last week with my fellow ranger @nefretiriii, after a 30minutes wait, we finally got our first taste of the infamous ramen. We were sorely dissapointed. The broth and the tamago just cannot make it. I might come back with my parents, but the likelihood is quite small.
Then my friend @chipper204 has been pushing the rangers to try Noodle House Ken @ Orchard Plaza. The place is ulu enough to be a good ramen shop (compared to the posh Ippudo in Mandarin Gallery). So a few days ago, after finished with Karaoke with @nefretiriii @elyse and her brother, we decided to have a late night supper at NHK. AGAIN, this ranger is dissapointed, the broth and noddle is not that happening also. I want to try the tamago, but they ran out of it. But never mind, judging from the noddles, I won't be coming back just to try the tamago (slap @chipper204)
So my verdict? My no. 1 ramen place is Marutama and Santouka, these two are still unbeatables. Why?
Santouka--> yes one bowl of Toroniku ramen will cost you 19bucks, but the pig cheek is to die for, the tamago is not that good here for my case lah. First time, I tried the tamago, they boiled it too long. But I will always come back with my parents and friends, since the pig cheek is to-die-for
Marutama--> I often ate at this place for a a quick lunch after picking up some magazines from Kino (almost once a month). They use chicken broth and lot's of green onions and seaweeds, their yaki char siu is also good (not thick and hard), and their TAMAGO is DA BEST FOR ME, never fails :)
Ah there's another restaurant that sells good ramen too, it's Tanpopo, they are using the kurobuta. You can find the stores in Nge Ann City and Liang Court. Talking about ramen, I suddenly feel like I want to go eat ramen again :(
I will make it my mission, to drag @nefretiriii to Marutama next time she's in town :D
