Trip to the Land of the Pharaohs Part 1

Was on a short trip to Egypt recently, one of those trips that you only intend to undertake once in your life.Rather than write about it at length, a pictorial journey of the land where the Holy Family reputedly fled to escape the prosecution of Rome should be more interesting.

On the first day of arrival at transit point in Doha, went on a short city tour, to amongst others, the camel market, a vegetable market, the venue of the Asian Games and bazaar as seen. We had to pay some USD50.00 for the VOA and the bus trip around the city since our next connecting flight was some 7 hours away.

It was hot, dusty and rather...smelly but overall it was worth it and the bazaar was rather interesting with it's wares and spices. Qatar is a rather conservative Islamic country on the verge of development boom and we were informed that petrol, gas, electricity and water are all...FREE! We were warned though that Islamic norms forbids us from taking picture of the locals. The official currency is the Qatari Riyal the rate of which is approximate to our Ringgit.
