Gokusen was also one of the first dramas I watched. I watched it after Hana Yori Dango. It's about (ues, I'm decribing it) a new teacher, Yamaguchi Kumiko, who gets assigned to be the homeroom teacher of class 3-D, the worst class in the school. Full of stupid, miss-behaving deliquints, they ran their previous teachers out. However, they don't know that this new teacher is the 4th generation heir to a big yakuza clan. Watch how her un-orthodox antics rival her challenging class.
My first thought was, "What? No romance?" But this doesn't need it. It is extremely funny and cute. It touches your heart (just enough that's it's not mushy-mushy). The cast was awesome. Matsumoto Jun, Oguri Shun, Narimiya Hiroki, etc. The conversations between "Yankumi" and the vice-principal crack me up so I have to rewind and watch them. I wish I had a teacher like Yankumi. Doesn't everyone? First season was great. I want to watch it again. Great for anyone just starting to watch japanese dramas.
The second season was really similar. 3-D, same vice-principal, everything. Just that the students were different. This time, it had Koike Teppei, Kamenashi Kazuya, and Akanishi Jin. Because of this drama, I found KAT-TUN, so thanks :) Anyway, some parts of the storyline are different of course. Different background stories of the students. However, in general, you get the jist.
The thrid season had Miura Haruma (looking hot as usual). Same thing as the first two seasons. This time, there are 2 groups in the same class and they have to be friends. In other words, it's a internal struggle within the class but you've seen that before. So yeah. However, the conversations between Goro and Yankumi are to die for.
The movie, I felt, was quite useless. It wrapped everything up nicely. Had cameos of some of the former members. Not Matsumoto Jun so don't get your hopes up like I did. The ending was cute. If you watched the first three seasons, you'll see a new relationship between teachers and students.
Some people felt quite disappointed after watching the 2nd and 3rd seasons. Like it's just a repeat of the 1st. In many ways, yes it is. However, I didn't feel disappointed. It was entertaining. The acting didn't terribly suck. As I mentioned before, a great way to open up your japanese drama career. Almost everyone has watched it. it's the almightly Gokusen.
