You'll have to forgive me for getting behind on this. Normally I'm a lot more punctual when I meet someone for coffee. It's one of my rules, I don't tend to forget about things like that. [pours into two mugs some of his own blend--#119 this time, dark and bitter per always, but with a rich flavor that has a hint of--well, whatever it is he puts in there, it's the best. He pays close attention to these things, after all.]
But...as you know, I haven't been here long and already, there's unpleasant business brewing, and it brings a bad aroma about, yeah? [takes a deep swig of his coffee, his 16th cup of the day and not his last] Poison...seems to foul up everything everywhere, doesn't it?
I haven't been as closely tied to the case as I would like to be--which is what I'd like to talk to you about today, in addition to catching up, of course. [a rough smile]
My days with the law back home are long over--but if I can do anything here to help, I will. Trust me on that.
