The hallway they step into was just big enough that five people could fit into it, standing shoulder to shoulder. The walls were painted magenta. They were decorated with orange leaves the size of placemats. Each one was edged in gold leaf and dotted with turquoise to follow the leaf's veining. That much, Metody couldn't be blamed for - the gigantic wall stickers were scuffed and peeling at the edge. The herringbone patterned linoleum in shades of orange and chocolate probably wasn't his fault either.
The hallway opened onto a livingroom done up in a riot of rippling blues overlaid with outlined geometric shapes in poppy and black. Dark blue and silver slipcovers had been put on over the overstuffed furniture, mercifully hiding whatever horrors lay beneath. The walls were crammed with bookshelves, and it said a lot about the place that the previous owners had stenciled flowers on the undersides and edges of the shelves.
Even the ceilings were decorated with fluffs of opal-tinted clouds on a background of pale, pale blue. Where they were whitest, they sparkled with ill-chosen dark silver craft glitter.
Metody gave them a smile that was midway between uncertain and proud. Even against that kind of background, his Hawaiian shirt was still offensively bright. "I'm, um - I'm going to repaint, but I wanted to get the bedrooms done first, because - yeah."
