Dracula

Dracula by Bram Stoker.  This was such a fantasic book! I loved it.  It's creepy and scary.  The characters are amazing.  The way it's written, put together with diary and journal entries, newspaper clippings, news reports, telegraphs and letters and notes.  Now, if you've seen the movie (which is great, too) be aware that they really aren't that much the same.  The story starts with Jonathan Harker on his way to Castle Dracula, to meet with the Count, who has bought some realestate in London.  The moment the book starts you realize that there is something not right about this place, because everyone he meets crosses themselves and tries to bless him and give him crosses and gifts, though he doesn't believe in any of this.  The journey to the castle is wonderfully written.  It doesn't take long for Jonathan to also realize that the Count is some kind of monster, and that he's a prisoner in the castle.  I admit, this whole part made me feel a bit claustrophobic, because it's so wonderfully written.  We then go on to meet Jonathan's fiance, Mina, and her best friend, Lucy, who is currently being courted by three men who also become main characters in the books.  There is Arthur Holmwood, who becomes Lucy's fiance, John Seward who is a doctor at a asylum, and Quincey Morris, an American who is adventuring.  There is Renfield who is in Seward's asylum and is completely crazy, or that's how it would seem, and under the tortures of Dracula.  I liked Renfield a lot, despite the you know, eating of bugs and birds and trying to kill people and drink their blood.  Then of course there is Abraham Van Helsing, a friend of Steward's, who summons him to London after Lucy is first attacked by Dracula.

I don't want to go too much into it, like I did Frankenstein, but this book seriously is an amazing read!
