Release the Kraken...err, Mantis!
We have Praying Mantises...
For those who don't know my birthday gift to Tiffany this year was 4 Praying Mantises. Tiff loves Praying Mantises and I also think that they might be an animal guide of hers (prior to meeting Tiff I'd seen 1 Praying Mantis in my life...now I see them ALL the time and usually around her). As long as Tiff doesn't rip my head off and then have sex with my corpse...its a pretty BA animal guide to have IMHO.
Anywho...I bought four and five showed up in the case. A good omen. The tank is now set up. The flies were put in (blissfully ignorant) and we have been watching them devour the flies (and eye each other warily...I'm worried that eventually we will have only 1 Praying Mantis).
They are adorable...they are about the size of my fingernail (they're BABIES). Apparently they will live for a year indoors. For an insect that's a pretty long life. And I figured if we enjoy having them we can buy more.
I want to name them...but since we don't know how many we will end up with after any potential fights, I'm holding off. And most importantly Tiff loves them (YAY...score).
