I'm in three classes. Biodiversity of Tropical Australia, History of Terrorism, and Linking Indigenousness. Biodiversity is a two hour lecture on Mondays, Terrorism is a two hour lecture and one hour tutorial on Tuesdays. For Linking Indigenousness, I go on a few field trips and meet for class three times. So most of the time I have five day weekends.
Biodiversity of Tropical Australia looks like it's going to be a very interesting class, and more fun than work. We're going to learn about all kinds of different plants and animals that live in this area. We go on three field trips. One to Flecker Botanic Gardens, then a weekend trip to Atherton Tablelands and maybe Chillagoe, and the last one is to a restaurant where we can try authentic Australian foods. I've already tasted a kangaroo hot dog... I didn't really like it. It was tough and kinda chewy and just tasted like bbq. But I am excited about the trip to the restaurant, it's the Red Ochre Grill.
History of Terrorism counts as two classes... Because it's apparently double the work. I have a lot of reading to do. The subject seems like it will be very interesting though. No field trips in this class :-( This class is a video lecture. They have the same class on the other JCU campus, so they just have a camera set up on that professor for us here in Cairns to see. The professor can also see us and we can ask questions and everything. I think that's going to take some getting used to.
I'm still a little confused as to what Indigenousness involves. We go on a trip to visit with Indigenous Australians and I have to go to some museums on my own. The class only meets three times though out the semester, but for the whole day. Other than that I don't know what we have to do.
So I only have class two days a week. The rest of the time I usually spend at the beach or in the city. So far this has been just like a really long vacation.... I love it, haha. There are new beach pictures up at webshots,

I'm still getting used to the differences between cultures. I'm still working on looking the correct way when I cross the road. A lot of the food is different too. Even Dominos pizza isn't the same as in the States. And veggie burgers are very different, I think I like them more here. Here a veggie burger is a potato based patty with carrots, peas, and corn in it. It's breaded and they grill it. It's delicious.
