Summary: November starts off rough.
It was November 2nd and Emmeline was sitting in her grandfather’s living room, staring at the deep lavender wall opposite her, as she had been doing for the past twenty-two hours. She hadn’t moved, hadn’t slept, and somewhere in the far recesses of her mind she knew how worried her grandfather must be.
It wasn’t her first brush with loss. No, there was her grandmother, Marlene, Benjy, Dorcas, Caradoc, Fabian, Gideon. In the past year Emm had lost more than she could handle, and others still had lost even more. She was still mourning them, and her mind could only process so much at a time.
She didn’t know what to do.
She was aware of her parents’ presence, that they were trying to talk to her, but it seemed to Emm as if they were very far away.
She didn’t know what to do.
She couldn’t react to this the same way she had to the loss of the twins. There was no death eater to hunt down anymore. This was different. Lily and James.
Harry was with his aunt and uncle, Remus had said. Dumbledore hadn’t let them see him. She was under investigation. They were all under investigation, though all seemed too strong a word for the pathetic number left of them.
Lily. James. Peter. Voldemort was dead and she didn’t care.
And Sirius.
She didn’t know what to do.
Sirius was to blame. She’d called Remus a dirty liar. She’d argued, against all reason and proof, that there was no way Sirius Orion Black would ever betray Lily and James. And then a silence had fallen between them and she had to get away. She’d apparated to the first place she could think; her grandfather’s living room.
She felt as if she’d forgotten how to breathe. Like someone had punched her in the gut and the feeling would never go away.
Lily was dead. James was dead. Peter was dead. Sirius was guilty.
She didn’t know what to do, so she did the only thing she could. She broke down.
