Lady Earth
The Earth smiled serenely as she awoke at dawn.
All was calm.
All was right.
The animals began to stir.
The wind blew gently.
The waters flowed smoothly.
People buzzed busily through streets.
They had places to go.
They had people to see.
All of the creatures living on Earth were peaceful.
For the most part, everyone was happy.
For the most part, no one was harmed.
A pain struck Earth.
It broke through her flesh.
It broke through her spirit.
Over and over she was cut.
Over and over she was burned.
Over and over she cried.
What was happening to hurt her so?
What had she done in order to deserve this pain?
What could she do in order to stop this chaos?
People were angry.
People were fighting.
People were hurting.
She had done nothing to deserve this pain.
She had provided food, shelter, and life.
In yet she took the pain and continued to nurture the injured.
As she hid, she saw innocent civilians crying.
As she hid, she saw soldiers fighting.
As she hid, she saw soldiers and civilians alike dying.
She was angry.
She was sad.
She was in pain
Nothing she could do could stop the people from fighting.
Nothing she could do could stop the people from hurting.
Nothing she could do could stop the people from crying.
She was scared.
She was harmless.
She was innocent.
It will take years for her wounds to heal.
It will take years for her tears to dry.
It will take years for her heart to be whole again.
The Earth cried painfully as she fell asleep at night.
All was not calm.
All was not right.
