My uncle Lee (grandmother's twin brother) passed away a few hours ago.
Just now I was playing a song on the piano that had morphed from "God Only Knows" into this series of chords clashing together, making what i felt was an appropriate goodbye for a man I highly respected and loved.
And as I kept playing with the tempo and the melody, a new song emerged. One I'd never played before, but certainly one I'd heard many times.
Great Gig In The Sky, by Pink Floyd.
He would be the kind of guy to give me that kind of a wink. I'd never played the song before but before I knew it, I was playing it note for note. I began to cry again. But I kept on. When there was a change, I'd think, "well, it sounds like it'd only be this many steps away, and it was definitely a minor chord, so let's try this..."
Every time. It was spot on. That never happens.
Spirits are an incredible thing.
