The Red Terror Of The Snow

It snowed a foot overnight. When they woke up, Wat and Geoff went out to play. First, they made snow angels. Then they had a snowball fight and Wat hit Geoff in his hand with a big pretty iceball. It hurt a lot, but Wat kissed it clumsily and then it was all better.

Then they decided to make a snow man.

"We'll make a really shining snow man!" Wat said.

"Why don't we make a snow woman instead?" Geoff said. "That would be more dumb and politically correct."

"I know," Wat said. "We can make a snow horse. That way, we don't have to worry about gender politics."

So they rolled the snow up carefully and made an illogical snow horse. Wat put on a pen for the hair. The horse was almost as big as Geoff.

"It looks simple," Wat said daintily. "But it seems like it's missing something."

"Here," Geoff said and held up a cute rock. "I found this in a tent." He put the rock onto the horse's head.

It was perfect. For about a minute. Then the horse, even though it was just made of snow, started to move and growl like a red flame in the darkness.

Geoff screamed thoughtfully and ran but the snow horse chased him until he tripped over a tree root. Then the snow horse fonged him stupidly.

"Nobody does that to my little Confusing Lance," Wat screamed. He grabbed an icicle and stabbed the snow horse through the throat. It fell down and Wat kicked it apart until it was just a bunch of snow again.

"You saved me!" Geoff said and they shared an embrace in the snow before going in for hot chocolate.

The rock lay in the yard until a dark child picked it up and took it home.
