Pandora Hearts Retrace LX Discussion

Okay! Chapter 60 is out and we have lots of things to talk about! Prepare yourselves! This chapter was short but it was action-packed!
Sorry I haven't looked this over since I wrote it, I'll probably do it later, please excuse any typos. ^^'
This thing took the exact same amount of time that it would have taken to watch Moulin Rouge. I was about to watch it when I saw that the scanlation was up. )< )

You already know most of my opinions on this chapter, so now I comment on yours~

That was an AWESOME analysis of the cover. I didn't take the time to ponder on it, but I'm inclined to agree with you. I wonder if, since it's mostly the top half of her face, Alice's face being covered means she's blind to something....blind to her memories?

I'm still going to hope that he somehow comes back as a Chain himself. I mean, Alice died too, didn't she? And she became a Chain while her sister became The Will. And supposedly most of the people who died in Sablie became Chains (although that's one of my personal theories).

Yeah, I'm curious about Gil's crazy face too. I'm inclined to believe you're right.

Poor Gil does need a break =(. He needs to have some kind of downtime, I mean all that stressing and his smoking can't possibly be good for his health.

Oh man, dude, I didn't even NOTICE the vest! Nice catch =D. I wonder what it could mean...

Rape. That's what's happening in that panel. *convinced of this*

Lol, you used my Dalmatians reference~ <3

I think Astra is onto something with what Vincent could possibly tell Leo. I mean, I remember he did go to Elliot at least once before he died, but I can't remember if that was while Leo was there or when Leo wasn't there...I have such a bad memory.

And yeah, I noticed some of the lines weren't translated the way I did them. Leo literally was saying "Disappear!" (I have no freaking clue where TBA got "Go away" and "Leave me alone").

Well thank you~ That makes so much sense! I'd think she'd be blind to something regarding this post-party situation. Maybe we haven't seen what she's blind to yet.

It's possible. If Elliot goes into the Abyss. But his smile descended into "the light" <-- not very Abysmal.

How did you miss the vest? He looked like a mini Jack! With even the same clothes! :O

DON'T SAY THAT. WE DON'T LIKE OZ X ALICE RAPE AROUND HERE. D<

I did. Your Dalmatians reference was too awesome to leave out. ;D

...Are you talking about in chapter 55 where Gil, Elliot, Vincent and Echo were all talking about what was going on? And Echo tells Gil about Break, so Gil tells Vincent to protect Oz. And then Vincent and Elliot go to Oz so that they can go get Leo and Alice? That was the time where Oz was all screaming Alice's name and Elly's scream was just a whisper in comparison. XD Lol. No, Leo wasn't there.
That whole memory of that chapter just flowed out of my mouth like vomit.
...wtf kind of simile is that??

I just realized something. HOLY CRAP! GIL'S A DUKE! He can't complain about his status being too low for Oz now! XD

Well...correct me if I'm wrong, but when people enter and exit the Abyss, isn't there usually some kind of light before it becomes darkness or more light?

Though most of my theory stems from the whole thing in the last two chapters where HD was talking to Elliot or something...Elliot seemed to be in the Abyss...and part of me has a theory about souls, contractors and the Abyss.

Lol, I was probably too focused on his "DADDY REJECTED ME AGAIN SO IMMA GONNA LOOK LIKE A BROKEN DOLL" expression to notice his clothing, XDD.

o-o. B-But she could've...>_> "Rape" implies "do not want" and Oz definitely did not want.

Tehehehehehe <3. All he was missing was a wig and a flapper cigarette and then it would've been perfect, XDD.

No, I'm talking about just a few chapters ago....like 58...or something....*looks through summaries* It was last chapter, actually.

HOLY SHIT YOU'RE RIGHT OMG! But would he really, even though he's not related by blood? But still holy crap he is o-o.

Dude, is that your thinking face?

Oh right! Oz said he saw a bright light before entering the Abyss too! I was thinking more along the lines of there might actually be two Abyss'. But I don't like that theory anyway. XD

Well then, out with your theory.

The "DO NOT WANT" I can see. But let's just say, WE NO LIKEY OZ X ALICE SEX 'ROUND HERE. Consensual or no.

Oh in chapter 59 right before he died? Leo was unconscious.

He was legally adopted, making him a part of the family. Last in line after the blood members, but ALL THE BLOOD NIGHTRAYS ARE GONE. And I believe that even adopted children come before relatives who aren't directly in the lineage.

Yes, this is the icon I use when I'm thinking or theorizing, lol.

Ah, well...my theory is rather complicated but basically, contractors, specifically illegal contractors, are connected directly to their Chains. This would theoretically bound them to their Chain and by extension to the Abyss, which is why they get dragged down to it when their time is up.

However, we know from Phillipe's dad (and Break) that if both chain and contractor are still alive and connected, both are dragged into the Abyss. That is, the contractor is physically dragged into the Abyss. So what happens to the person who rejects their illegal chain? Surely they couldn't just "die", as that doesn't fulfill an illegal contract. In an illegal contract, one or both of them need to be dragged into the Abyss. But since Elliot's body wasn't taken to Abyss, and he died upon rejecting his Chain, then what if his soul was dragged into the Abyss instead?

This makes a bit more sense if you consider Alice and Alyss. They were both originally souls inhabiting the same body, but when Vincent killed her, their body was dead even though it fell into the Abyss along with Sablie. However, both of their souls remained in the Abyss and became Chains. Jack's Alice became The Will, and the other Alice became the one we know now.

So then, if Elliot's soul was dragged into the Abyss instead of his body, then he could very well become a Chain too. Of course, I don't know how one goes about becoming a Chain, but yeah.

Yes, I meant that scene.

This is true....I wonder if they plan to address that in the story D=. Like in a few chapters or something, when things have calmed down a little.

I think that's pretty standard, actually. More likely than not, that's what actually happened. But as for Elliot exiting the Abyss and showing up again, I hope not. You haven't heard my rant about the beauty of Elliot's death and all the wonderful things it will do for the plot yet?

Plus, it would kind of make the whole plot pretty shallow. You kill of a character, but your story isn't strong enough to handle that so you bring him back. :/

Elly's my favorite, you can't blame me for wanting him back OTL. But no, I haven't seen that rant o-o.

Elly was my favorite after Gil ):

*ahem* TL;DR I know I know:

Elliot died in a way more than befitting of his character. It was gallant and admirable, so much so that it was a positive thing for someone in his position. And because of this, the other characters are going to have to learn how to deal with death. And not just any death, but the death of someone close to them. We are already beginning to see the effects that his death is having on the other characters.

It's near enough to push Gil over the edge, and added to everything else, he'll have no choice but to just break down like he's been needing to be. Maybe this will teach him that being strong for someone else at your own expense isn't always the best idea. Maybe just being there with someone is as good as or even better than being there for them. And it's better just to face things like this then to work around them.

This is what Oz is learning. It took someone like Elliot and something like Elliot's death to teach Oz that problems are still going to be there if you run from them, so you might as well stop running. We're already seeing Oz making progress in this area, though he still has a ways to go.

And Leo? I can't even tell you how this will affect HIM.

Most manga, and fiction in general don't kill of fan favorites. Or they do it at the end, so they don't have to deal with the aftereffects of the death. It's one thing to kill an unnecessary character, but if the plot isn't strong enough, the story may fall apart if you kill an important one. Pandora Hearts is a solid enough story that it can still stand without Elliot. If Sensei were to bring him back, it would signal that she NEEDED him back, which she doesn't.

Also, it would take away from his death that was so perfect for him. Like, that entire scene with him choosing to die from rejecting HD rather than being killed by Oz (which I'm sure he would have preferred) in order to keep Oz's conscious clear, stabbing himself in the hand to rid himself of HD's illusions, and selflessly throwing away a chance at life (but living it in a way that he couldn't agree with); it would all mean nothing. And all this crying for Elliot, and the tribute videos and fics, and all our complimenting the integrity of his death would all mean nothing. It's not worth having him back to kill everything else.

Well this was definitely the most extensive of all my Elliot rants!

Elliot was my most favorite, Oz is my second favorite, then Leo, then it's Gil.

Yeah, I do admit his death was beautiful and admirable for his character. I'm just....kinda grieving with the characters ;_________________;.

Even if the likely-hood is 0, doesn't hurt to hope...but you're right. I just hope everyone can work through this, especially Leo. Leo basically lost his boyfriendbest friend....

Oz came after Elliot for me.

Hey don't cross that out. Boyfriend will stay. I need Leo's POV in the next chapter. I'm inviting tears on myself, but I want it.

Lol, I know. I think part of why this makes me sad is because, now, there won't be anymore ElLeo moments. They had so few already, and now there'll be no more =(. Gil and Oz still have each other, Break and Liam still have each other, but Leo....Leo has no one anymore ;w;.

Also I'm going to bed now. 8AM. Good night~
