I Have To Burn Your Kingdom Down (Lyanna) - Glit_chick08July 12 2012, 01:55:33 UTC
She does not realize it was a mistake to go with Rhaegar until word reaches them that Brandon and her father are dead. Rhaegar does not let her read the letter, but she manages to wheedle the details out of Oswell Whent later. He tells her how Brandon rode brazenly into the Red Keep, shouting for Rhaegar to come out and die; he tells her how Brandon strangled in his desperation to reach his sword and save their father, whom the Mad King burned alive. The king calls for Ned's head now, and she wonders if Benjen's will be next, if Aerys Targaryen will allow any Stark to live.
House Stark has stood for 8,000 years, they were the Kings of Winter before the Targaryens even thought of coming to Westeros, but her house will die now, sentenced to extinction because of her graceless heart. She wants to go home, wants to pray before the heart tree and plead forgiveness from her brothers, but Lyanna knows that is not an option any longer, that Ned and Benjen will hate her forever for what she has brought down on their family.
For the rest of her life, whenever Rhaegar moves to touch her, Lyanna flinches away.

It is my head canon that Lyanna wanted to go home after what happened to Brandon and Rhaegar wouldn't let her. So what was once her being a voluntary participant became a hostage situation.

I would love to have a prequel! So many awesome POVs to be had! So much backstory to be had even once he finishes the series.
