Remind me to never ever take a one year hockey hiatus ever again. I played for about an hour on Friday and I'm still stiff and sore a two days later. I was definitely rusty, my shot was both rather inaccurate and not very hard, but I should be able to get back up to par soon...hopefully. I can also see I need to work on my endurance, I should probably start jogging in the mornings again. At least this year I won't have to argue with my mother about why I don't take Simba with me. Actually, speaking about Simba, I honestly don't miss him at all. It almost seems as if he had never existed and let me tell you, it is definitely nice not having to hear a dog bark every time someone walks through the back alley. Also, no more feeding and wiping dogs for me! Back to hockey though. The playoffs have officially started! The games have been exciting to watch so far, although the sheer mass of powerplays in some of the games is slightly disturbing. No, wait! Extremely disturbing would be more accurate. The Habs played well last night. They got off to a bit of a rocky start, but capitalized on their first powerplay to knot the score at one. They then went on to score another five unanswered goals to take the first game 6-1 on enemy ice! Gerber, the Carolina goalie, played like shit and it's very possible that his confidence could be done for the series. I'm pretty sure he'll start the next game, but if he gets shelled again, it will be hello Mr. Cam Ward, also known as the 20-something year-old who only played 38 games this season and barely any since the Olympic break. Without Cole and a veteran back-up, such as Irbe, there is no way this series is going to have the same results as in 2002.  On a related note, there was a HUGE hit on Philly forward RJ Umberger by the Sabre defenceman Brian Campbell. Umberger must have been watching Lindros tapes between periods or something because he took a pass and went straight up the ice with his head down, just like poor ol' Lindros used to. And just like Scott Stevens what did to Lindros a few years ago, WHAM, Campbell absolutely destroyed Umberger in a beautiful open-ice hit! Buffalo went on to win the game in double-overtime, with Briere netting the winner. Enough about hockey however. My mother wanted to rent a movie last night, so I tried to convince her to get a decent one, but no, she decided to get a "scary" movie. Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind the odd slasher here and there when I'm feeling a tad bit sadistic, but it's entirely different listening to someone go "Oh my God! Oh, that's awful! How could anyone do that?" for about two hours. The movie wasn't even that great, it was basically a Saw ripoff, but without all the psychological horror. Anyways, I wouldn't really recommend it, so don't bother renting Wolf Creek, providing you haven't already wasted good money on it.
