What a difference a layer makes...

This is a monotype I've been working on for a few weeks now, mostly because I haven't liked how it's been going, and I keep hoping that elusive next layer will fix things. Of course, since I don't like it as is, and am basically making it up as I go along, it ends up being forgotten for days on end.

I'm doing a few monotypes with the same reference drawing, it's primarily because I have yet to be happy with any I've made, but if anyone asks, I'm exploring potential variations in the matrix.
