Ladies and Gentlemen,
There are many different opinions and sayings on and of this movie. There is this particular person whom I got to know who hates this movie and thinks that its a total disaster as compared to local films. There is also this person, namely me, who thinks that this is a fresh start in the movie industry in Singapore!
881 to me brought back a lot of memories, I laughed hard, I cried hard. The plot of the story came from the slums of Singapore, the Ge-tai. Two not too famous girls who wanted to become ge-tai artists, did not really make it on their own, and with the Attitude of Singaporeans, they approached someone famous, aka Xian Gu, to help them. Well nothing wrong here, ANYWAY. The whole gist of the story lies on these 2 girls and how they made it big in the scene, with some parts that I would not want to reveal.
The camera scenes were much better than the previous movie of Royston Tan. 15 did not leave too much of an impression in me. Well, this movie brought back some had-been stars of Singapore and made them alive again. Although the start of the story made me think of the past movies of Jack Neo but nearing to the mids and then to the end, I ate my own words back. Royston Tan really is a different director from Jack Neo and did a fabulous job at it. He commanded the artists to a different level of acting, although using the old styles, and brought them back to life with all different characters infused into them. You will be able to all the different characters vividly and you will also see the painstake they put in into all the costumes.
Camera work, to me, beat even Spiderman 3 hands down. Looking how he worked with built up sets and also green screens, he did a very very good mix of work ranging for the locals to the international audience. Well, like I said to crazyz_23 who happens to hate the show, we are not able to please all. You like green, I like blue, so be it.
