I have a grey cat named Penny. I now have a virtual cat named Penny. I have a dog named Minty. I now have a virtual dog named Minty. both of these animals are in the next room, but I am playing with and petting their virtual doppelgangers. There's a lesson here somewhere about how more and more actual experiences are mediated and understood through participation in mass media, but I prefer not to dwell on that, because my virtual cat isn't going to feed itself.
