Wow, last night was wild. I'm still recovering, actually.
We were invited to a birthday party for one of the members from the No Kidding group, that officially disbanded, but she was able to gather up a bunch of our e-mail addresses. She rented a room at the Residence Inn uptown, which is actually a cool idea, you don't have to clean before and after like when you have a party at home, and since it's a suite hotel, it has a kitchen and a fair amount of room. We got there around 7:30 and some of the old NK gang was already there, and a bunch more showed up, as well as some of her co-workers. The room got pretty crowded. I don't normally drink wine, but for some reason I felt like having some. There was Sprite, so I mixed white wine spritzers using the famous Trader Joe's "Two Buck Chuck" (although in NC, it's actually closer to 3 Buck, because of the extra taxes or delivery fees or whatever). After 3 of those, I switched over to straight wine. Whoo-hoo.
It got to be about 10, and a few people were starting to leave, and I noticed Frank putting on his coat. I asked where he was going, and he said they were all going to ride the light rail. So, I chugged down the rest of my wine, and 6 of us went outside and walked about 3 or 4 blocks to the light rail station. Candy had smuggled out some wine in a hotel bathroom glass, so she & I were drinking from that. Classy. The light rail opened in November, but we had never ridden it, because right now the only part that has been built is the Southside-Uptown route, and since we live North of the city, it wouldn't be convenient for us. The ticket machine was broken (which has been an on-going problem) so we just got on, then got off a few stops later, and never had any ask us for tickets. We went to a bar, had a few drinks, and then got back on the train to go back to Uptown. This time we also didn't have tickets, but I'm not sure why, and I was a little oblivious by that point. Next thing I know, here's the transit cop, threatening us all with $50 fines, but fortunately someone in our group talked our way out of that.
We got off at our original stop, and the other 4 headed off to where they had parked, and Frank & I walked back to the hotel. We went upstairs, and the room was still open, but everyone had left. We went in and had one last drink with the b-day girl and her guy, which was cool, because I hadn't even really gotten to talk to her during the party. We went home, went to sleep, and yeah, I was feeling just lovely when I woke up this morning. But it was a fun night. I really didn't know what to expect from this party, wasn't even sure if I wanted to go, but I knew there would be people I hadn't seen in awhile. I'm glad we went, and it ended up being great.
