Good Morning Baltimore!

Well, to be more specific, good morning Baltimore suburb of Linthicum, but either way, Yay for free wireless internet at the hotel. And happy birthday to me.

This weekend has been pretty great so far. Saturday we drove up, which was long and boring, got to my friend Tanya's house at around 4:30. She lives in a condo in a really cool mixed-used development with all kinds of restaurants and shops right there within one block. Then we rode the Metro into DC along with her friend William, grabbed dinner at the Union Station, and took a cab to the Palace of Wonders. The place was a lot smaller than I was expecting, but the coolest thing was...go to their website (Google it- I'm trying to write this quickly, so I'm not gonna link it for you), there is a drawing of a woman and an orange cat. That is a real cat who lives at the bar! He was laying there when we walked in, so I got to pet him. The place is set up with a small stage, a bar, and a little bit of seating downstairs, and then a second bar and a little more seating upstairs and a big flat-screen TV so you can watch the show from up there. Luckily we got there early enough to get some of the few seats/tables. It ended up getting really packed by the time the show started. The show was really short! Gilded Lily Burlesque had 5 dancers, but no jugglers, no freaks (not that anyone can top Sideshow Benny!). The performances ranged from great to so-so, but we had fun. We hung a out a little after the show, had a couple more drinks, met Bambi Galore who is really cool, and then went back to Tanya's for a night of sleeping on an air mattress and charging phones and my iPod.

The next day we had free to do whatever, so we could have gone to any of the free national museums of DC, or a major historical site. We decided we'd rather go to IKEA! Frank & I had never been to one before, and it's still going to be awhile before the one they are building near us is finished. We were there about 3 hours, including lunch at the restaurant (Swedish meatballs and lingonberry drink FTW!), and bought a bunch of little knickknacks and goodies. We brought Tanya home and made our way to Baltimore.

Red Sox Nation has invaded Baltimore! Everywhere we look there are Red Sox decals on cars, hats, t-shirts. We went to dinner at a local seafood joint called G & M's, and had awesome Maryland crab cakes.

Today we have the whole day to explore Baltimore before the game. We are going to take the light rail in, and maybe take a Duck Boat tour or go on a harbor lunch cruise. The game is at 7. Go Red Sox!

dc trip, birthday, red sox
