Fast & Quiet Day

May 26, 2008 16:47

Wow, today went by fast...almost time to go home. There was pretty much no traffic getting here, I was able to leave the house almost 10 minutes late (not intentionally, but I had to pantry-dive for something to bring for lunch), stop at Starbucks for an iced tea (even leaving home late I managed to forget to bring a drink), and still get to work at my usual time. The building is actually closed today, so I had to use my code to get in, something I rarely do anymore since switching to 8:30-5. I kept putting in *(code)*, and it wasn't working. Finally I did #(code)# and got the green light! I'm glad it didn't lockdown for too many attempts, like an ATM. That would have been embarrassing. Frank was still asleep when I left. Normally if he's home (working at home or taking a random day off) and I go to work, he gets up or I wake him up, but since today was a legitimate holiday, I fed the cats myself and left him alone.

Driving to work this morning reminded me that it's been 2 years since I bought my little house. I moved in over Memorial Day weekend 2006. I still like it, although there are several things it needs done, like have the carpet replaced as a result of two years of kitty claws. Especially by the bathroom doors: "I know you're in there! Let me in!" I also have never replaced the bathtub that I put my knee through, but my lovely duct tape and plastic bag handiwork is still holding up surprisingly well. It does get a little crowded sometime, as I bought it as a single cat lady, not expecting someone to be moving in a year later. It would be nice for Frank to have a room of his own (for his desk, computer, etc), but he's a good sport about making do with the space we have.
