I suppose I'm the only person under the age of 60 who has stocked up on Forever stamps in advance of the postal rate increase on Monday. I know, I know...stamps? GTFO you dinosaur! I got 8 books today. 2 books are to use for Pride-related business, and the other 6 are for myself. I don't really use stamps for bills anymore (most of them are set up on auto-pay now), but a lot of items on my Mission 101 list involve using postal mail, such as sending handmade birthday cards. The increase on May 12 is only one cent, so if I use up all my stamps during the period of 42 cent stamps, my total savings will be a whopping $1.60. but if stamps continue to increase (which they will) and I still have a supply of Forevers, then I'll save a little more. But, really, I think I got them more for the convenience. I should never have to worry about buying stamps for awhile. Of course in December, I'll still want to buy whatever the secular holiday-themed design is for the cards I mail out.
I'm going to try mailing letters to organzations I want to reach for Pride. In the past years, I've used e-mail and phone with varying results. Maybe since people are being flooded with e-mails these days, receiving a letter in the mail will be a nice change of pace. Not that it's any more difficult for people to ignore a letter than it is to ignore an e-mail or a voicemail message, but maybe seeing that someone took the time to write and mail an actual letter they will take the time to read it and respond.
Update on the missed TV shows: I found out the local NBC station will be showing Scrubs on Saturday at 7PM and The Office at 7:30. So I can watch them (or DVR them if we go out), which is cool. All the shows are available to watch on-line, but I don't like watching TV shows on the computer. I did it once for an episode of The Office I missed (before I had DVR), and it wasn't that enjoyable. I still would have to watch 30 Rock on-line, apparently, but one show is better than three.
