Side A
Six year old Akanishi Jin pouted as he watched his mother’s car drive away. I don’t want to go to school… he thought angrily, crossing his arms as the teacher called for the children to come inside so they can start their lesson on spelling.
I’d rather play… he looked over at the pre-school playground where the smaller children were playing games in their own little groups.
Jin bit his lip and looked over to where the other children in his class were lined up and back to where the pre-schoolers were playing, it was a tough decision for his six-year old mind… did he want to play or work…work or play…?
Noticing another little boy sitting in the sand box, he made up his mind…he hated when people were lonely, so, he looked back at the teacher taking attendance and went through the fence to the other side.
-
“Hey, what’s wrong?”
Sniffling, he looked up, “Huh?” he mumbled, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
“Why are you crying?”
The little boy sniffled again, “Mommy…left me…here…today…is…birthday…” he started crying again.
Jin pouted again, kneeling down in front of the little boy, “How old are you?”
He looked at Jin, “five…”
Jin smiled, “Happy birthday~ Being five is really good…I’m six…almost seven…when you turn six, you get put in a big boy school like there…” he pointed to the other side of the fence, “It’s scary…but they give you cookies and juice three times a day!” he said excitedly, holding up three of his fingers.
The little boy sniffed one last time and wiped his eyes, “D…do you want to play…?”
Jin smiled widely, “Sure! My name’s Jin…what’s yours?”
“Kazuya…”
--
When the pre-school teacher came out to call in the children, she nearly panicked when she couldn’t find Kazuya.
That’s when she saw two small figures under a tree, laying curled up beside each other.
She smiled and went inside to place a call to the elementary school.

Side K
Kazuya wailed loudly when his mother made him get dressed, “B…but Mommy! I want to spend…day with you…”
“Kazu, you’re a big boy now…you have to go to school…” she reprimanded gently, “I’ll see you at lunch dear…I promise…”
He shook his head and pulled his arm from her grip, running back to the couch, “No! Don’t wan’ to go!”
His mother sighed heavily, “Kazu…you’re six today…six year olds go to school to make friends…”
“But I don’t need no friends…I have you…and…and Jin…and…” he trailed off, burring his face into the cushions.
She walked to the couch and sat down beside him, “…but if you don’t go, Jin-kun will be sad that he won’t be able to see you until after school…”
Peeking from between his fingers, the little red-eyed boy sniffled, “…Jin will be sad…?”
Nodding, she pulled him into a sitting position, “Very sad. He wants to spend the day with you…and he can only spend half if you’re not at school with him…”
Pouting, Kazuya blinked at her, “…will I get cake?”
She smiled, “After school, baby.”
He nodded and stood up, “Come on Mommy, let’s go see Jin~”
-
Kazuya crossed his arms over his little chest as he stood at the front gates where his mother said she’d pick him up.
“I don’t see her Kazu…” and eight year old Jin said, trying to write down one of the math problems from his homework.
He sighed, “B…but I want cake…” he whispered, feeling tears well up in his eyes, “…what if she forgotted about me…?”
Jin put the pencil down and stood up, wrapping his arms around Kazuya in a hug, “She didn’t forget about us Kazu…she’s just late…”
He sniffed, turning around and burying his face into Jin’s chest, “…really?”
Maneuvering them to where they sat on the ground, he nodded, “Really.”
Kazuya nodded, closing his eyes, “Sleepy…” he whispered, eyes heavy.
Jin yawned a little, “Then sleep Kazu…I’ll watch you…”
His hand fisted in Jin’s shirt as he drifted off to sleep.
The older smiled down at him, “Happy birthday to you…” he whispered; eyes falling shut also.

Side A
Jin sighed as he stood in line at the florist, fingering the small box in his pocket, he had a surprise for his lover…he just didn’t know if the other would accept it or not.
After ordering a dozen roses, he paid the florist and stepped out into the busy street where he headed down the sidewalk towards his destination…his lover’s apartment.
-
Knocking on the door, he bit his lip as he waited.
Moments later, the door opened to reveal a slightly sleepy Kazuya…
“Jin…? What are you…” he was cut off when the older shoved the roses into his arms.
“Happy Birthday~” he sang, trying to not show how nervous he was.
It took Kazuya a moment to comprehend what he said, then, he smiled, “Thank you Jin. Come on in…I’ll get ready and we can go out…”
Jin smirked, “I have a better idea first.”
Kazuya chuckled and shook his head, “Okay fine, we can do that, then we’ll go out.”

Side K
Kazuya looked over at his lover, smiling as the other told the waiter what type of wine they wanted.
“Jin, it’s expensive…you don’t need to do t-”
He was cut off when Jin pressed a finger to his lips, “Let me indulge my lover a little sometimes, alright?”
Kazuya nodded silently before obediently ordering from the high-priced menu.
-
Kazuya smiled as he looked up at the starry sky, “It’s beautiful…” he whispered.
“Yeah…” Jin agreed, staring at Kazuya as they walked along the path of the park, “…have you enjoyed your birthday?”
Looking at Jin, Kazuya nodded, “I have…so much. It’s the best one I’ve ever had.”
Jin looked nervous, “Kazu…can we talk?”
“W…what about?” Kazuya asked nervously.
Biting his lip, Jin stopped and motioned for Kazuya to sit down on the edge of the fountain.
“Well, we’ve been dating since third year of high school right? …and now you’re twenty-five…we’ve been doing this for a while…” he trailed off, watching the younger’s face, “…frankly, I’m not getting any younger and neither are you…”
“J...Jin…”
He shook his head, “Let me finish…” he waited for Kazuya to nod, “…and I know it’s not legal here and even if it was, our relationship is different…but…I can’t keep this a secret forever…I want to be able to tell everyone about my wonderful lover who’s doing undergrad work to become a doctor…and how he has a soft-spot for his neighbor’s dog, even if the neighbor is an asshole…” he paused, “I had this big speech planned, but…I’m so nervous, I can’t remember half of it…so I’ll just wing it…” he took a deep breath, “Kazuya…we can’t get married…but we can live together…and we can wear rings…” he pulled a box from his pocket and opened it, “…so…will you wear the matching ring…and move in with me?”
Kazuya stared speechless at Jin, “J…Jin…w…what?”
“I know I’m probably wrong for asking this of you…but…I can’t help it…I want to be with you forever...”
He blinked, “But…I thought you wanted kids? You said that when we were younger…you always wanted a little girl…I…I can’t give you that.” He whispered, looking down.
Jin walked closer, closing placing the box on the sill, “We can always adopt…” he said, lifting Kazuya’s head, “…if we can’t…then…I don’t care about children…I just want to be with you…”
Kazuya looked down again, reaching for the box and pulling the ring out, “…promise not to treat me like your wife?”
Jin stared at Kazuya, “…yes?”
A smile broke out on his face, “Then I accept.” He said, slipping the ring onto his finger.
Jin exhaled loudly, a smile on his face too, “Happy birthday…”
Kazuya kissed him, “This is the best birthday ever…”

Side A
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…happy birthday dear Daddy, happy birthday to you~”
Jin smiled as he watched their twelve year old daughter sing to Kazuya, a sloppily made cake sitting on the table in front of him.
The smile that broke out on Kazuya’s face at the lopsided red velvet cake made Jin’s heart flutter.
“How old are you Daddy~?”
Kazuya grinned, “Old…”
She pouted, “Daddy…you’re not that old…Papa says you’re still pretty~”
Jin blushed, “Aki…don’t say stuff like that…”
“You said it first~” the little blonde haired girl said, sticking her tongue out at him.
Jin sank down in his chair as Kazuya fixed an amused stare on him.
Even at thirty-five, he can still embarrass me…

Side K
Kazuya stared at the beautiful blonde woman, “Aki…you look beautiful…” he said as she adjusted the white veil over her face.
The blue eyed girl smiled, “Thank you Daddy…” she said, placing a hand on her slightly round belly.
Linking his arms with her, they headed out into the church, the Wedding March playing as they walked down the isle.
As they reached the end, Kazuya walked her up the steps to where her future husband stood before walking over to stand over beside Jin, who wrapped his arm around the younger male.
-
“Grandpa! Grandpa!” two excited voices called as they rushed into the house.
Kazuya laughed when he was tackled onto the couch by two hyperactive boys.
Jin chuckled at his lover, “Still energetic as always, eh Aki?”
Aki grinned, “Yeah…like I was when I was a little kid, right Papa?”
Kazuya struggled, “Hey now, this isn’t how you treat your grandpa on his birthday…”
They froze and got down, “Sorry Grandpa…” they said together.
Kazuya laughed, “Come here boys...” he said, holding his arms out.
The twins smiled, front teeth missing, “Grandpa!” they dived at Kazuya.
Aki laughed at her sons, “Come on boys, lets got to the kitchen…I’m sure grandpa has more birthday cake in there~”
-
Later that day, when Aki was loading her children up into the car, she waved back at Jin and Kazuya before getting into her car and driving off.
When they were back inside, Kazuya leaned against Jin, sniffling a bit.
“What’s wrong?” the older man asked, wrapping his arms around the younger.
Resting his head against the taller’s shoulder, he felt tears roll down his cheeks, “She grew up so fast…”
“That’s life baby…”
“Yeah~ But I feel old~~” Kazuya whined.
Jin smiled and kissed him, “Even at forty-five, you’re still like a kid.”

Side A
“It’s not your fault Jin…really. You had no idea…so…stop blaming yourself…”
Jin buried his face in his hands, “If I’d have known, I could have paid for that treatment…”
A frail hand reached out, “Jin, I’m almost fifty-six, the treatment wouldn’t have helped me at all…the risks for that procedure were far worse than the risks of the disease…”
He shook his head, “We should have gotten you checked out when you were younger…if it was in your family line…then…”
“Jin…listen to me, alright? There’s nothing we can do…I’m a doctor, I knew that this would happen.”
Jin felt tears run down his cheeks, “Kazu…don’t leave me…please…I…I can’t live without you…”
Kazuya sat up, a bit difficultly, “Jin…it would have happened sooner or later…there’s no way to put this off…I know that you wish there was…but…there’s not.” He whispered, reaching out and threading his fingers through Jin’s graying hair, “None of this is your fault…”
Looking up at his lover, he reached out and gripped the other’s hand, “Kazu…”
The other man smiled at him, “Come on, let’s rest…” he said, pulling Jin to stand and get onto the bed that’d been connected to the hospital bed.
-
The next morning, Jin woke up, the tight grip that his lover hand on his hand had slackened…Jin knew why…
He sat up and brushed the younger man’s hair from his face, “Happy birthday Kazu…” he whispered, pressing his lips against the cold forehead.
Willing away the tears, he left the room to call for the doctors.

Don't blink
Just like that you're six years old and you take a nap and you
Wake up and you're twenty-five and your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
Don't blink
You just might miss your babies growing like mine did
Turning into moms and dads next thing you know your "better half"
Of fifty years is there in bed
And you're praying God takes you instead
Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster then you think
So Don't blink
So, tell me what you think 8D
