2008 was generally a pretty good year aside from the recession, the multiple wars and other global mishaps. I got back together with Julia, played over 60 shows, met tons of great new people, got to hang out with Jason from Magnolia Electric Co. who was nice as hell, ate hot dogs with Thax Douglas who really enjoyed talking about himself, visited states I had never been to, had some extremely delicious meals, went to twins, brewers and hawks games (the brewers game was full of hilarity and ridiculousness...)
I guess the only really disappointing thing I can think of off the top of my head happened in Minneapolis. Julia, her sister and I were walking around downtown when we stumbled upon a CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY building. They were offering some sort of deranged stress test and I really wanted to take it, but Julia and Anna refused. So my new years resolution is to go back when Elephant Gun and Bust! tour this summer.
Ian's party was a blast, it was a great way to begin the year.
I felt weirdly mortal at one point during JBBA's set when the floor began moving up and down like a trampoline.
I missed a lot of bands for various reasons, but the highlights were:
Bust!, Catburglars, Sweet Cobra, VBS, Brokedowns, Prizzy Prizzy Please, Strawpeg, The Budgets, The Arrivals and HSH(although they only got to play 4 songs)
Giant Lakes set was one of the funnest I've played. Elephant Gun set was pretty fun as well.
There was an after party at Todd's place one of the nights, it was kind of a bummer though; there were these white-trash idiots running around breaking fluorescent light bulbs on their backs, bleeding everywhere and spreading new diseases... apparently in the name of comedy.
On a different note the lady and I have been talking about moving to a different country for fun for a little while after we graduate and make a few bones. Not the old "WAH noone here understands me, I am moving to France to find myself" nonsense, I just think it would be a really fun experiance to have for a while. I don't ever think I could leave the United States for too long, there are some really incredible parts of America that I have yet to see and I love American food, music and my friends.
I guess the downside is that at this point work is pretty scarce in most countries and it is hard to get a work permit because of that, but that may change in a few years.... we'll see...
