She wasn't quite sure what fascinated her so much about them. Perhaps it was that they were always moving, or maybe because that was what she imagined magic to look like.
The golds, maroons, yellows, oranges swirling, bobbing, weaving in many patterns as the women in bright dresses spun them around, caught Kel's attention, and held it.
Her parents would laugh about it at night: their most rambunctious child frozen in place, staring unabashedly at the moving paper fans.
The other children would tease her, but Kel didn't care for once. All she wanted was to watch the fans move.
