I'm experimenting with
crock pot granola. First off, if you have a normal sense of smell, the recipe does not mean stir constantly. It means "if it smells like the granola is browning heavily, check it". Second off, you can pretty well ignore the proportions given... ours is mostly oatmeal, with a seasoning of pecan bits and almond bits. 1/2 cup of butter and honey works fine for our large crock pot.
A standard sized thing of generic oatmeal should make between 2 and 3 batches for our crock pot. It costs about $5. The nuts would be an additional $15 or $20, tho I could get it down by not using whole almonds. I'll call the butter $2.17. Honey would be about $3. So $25-30 for what looks to be about 6 weeks worth of breakfasts for Bill. Not bad if he'll eat it. It comes out about the same in cost as the TJ's granola he likes, so if he eats it, it's a win... I can get the ingredients pretty well anywhere.
