Why: Because Mason's got to get his head to stop spinning, and he owes Bella the truth.
Mason wasn't anxious to make this phone call, but he had promised Lacey he would, and he's promised Bella he wouldn't hurt her and he had to stop being the huge fucking asshole he knew that he was becoming. He paced his apartment for an hour before he finally struck up the nerve to call her. A million things raced through his mind as he dialed her telephone number. Why was he acting this way? What had made him decide that going dancing with Lacey was a good idea? Why was he trying to force things with Bella? Would someone get hurt, no matter what he did? Did he even deserve to get a chance?
He bit his lip and waited patiently as the telephone rang.
