Iona had been sitting in the back for some time now, listening to some of the music. She had to say she really did like Bella's music. It made you want to get up and dance, throw your body around. And it was catchy. When Bella was done, and a guy named Josh, Iona got up and slowly moved towards the front towards the small stage ( ... )

Bella was so glad that Iona had finally agreed to perform at one of their nights. She hadn't actually listened to much of her music, so she was excited to see her just as a performer. She crossed her heart promising not to go after her with her crutches and watched with a smile on her face. Performing was always great for musicians and Iona wasn't an exception to that rule. Once the girl got off the stage Bella was clapping loudly, "You did fantastic!"

"Thanks a bunch," Iona said to Bella with a smile. "It felt great," she admitted. "You did great as well. Your hard-rock punk music," she said with a laugh. Iona liked all kinds of music, though with her voice, the soulful, jazzy type stuff suited her better.

"Hard rock, haha more like pop punk half the time," She chuckled. It was nice to be around someone who definitely had a different style from her own music, "I loved your song though, very soulful. And I knew it would feel great, that's why I harassed you so much."

Iona laughed, "Well, it was definitely different. We can't all sing the same though, right? And if you think about it, it's a very naughty song." 'Put Your Hands On Me' was one of her favorites. "Your second song was really good. I liked they lyrics."

"Naughty songs are the best," She responded with a laugh. She did love the naughty songs that were on most cds and she smiled, "Aw, thank you. I'm really glad you liked it."

Kate was impressed. It had been an astounding presentation, the kind she wouldn't expect to happen in a small cafe - how many great musicians could be found that way? Taking her vodka, she got up and approached the woman, who had just sat in a table.

One thing she used to think was that an artist could always use some feedback. "I just wanted to say, it was a fantastic presentation. I hadn't encountered something like that in a long time." Kate said, grinning.

Iona looked up and gave a smile to the girl, "Thanks, that means a lot. It's been quite a while since my last performance, it always makes me feel so giddy." She moved a couple of her things off the table and gestured to the girl to take a seat, "Would you like to sit? I'm Iona by the way."

"You're welcome." Kate answered and sat down. "Yes, I'd love to. I came here by my own, to check things out. Someone told me today would be a special night." She explained. "I'm Kate." She smiled and stretched her hand.

"Nice to meet you Kate," Iona reached over and shook the girls hand. "Are you new in town?" She didn't think she had met the girl before, but with as busy as she had been she was doing good to keep her own name remembered. "Open mic night is always special, but it seems that we have a few more people performing then usual. All this music makes me happy."

"Nice to meet you too." Kate said. "Yes, I moved here a couple days ago. This is my second visit to Torrent." She explained before taking a drink. "I've got to say music here is great; I wasn't expecting that. Guess I should become a regular, if this is something constant." She smiled, crossing her legs under the table.

"This place is great," Iona looked around Torrent. "It didn't take me long to realize it has the best coffee and the best people in Seattle." Turning her gaze back to Kate she asked her, "So what brings you to Seattle? Are you a musician as well?"

"Oh, no. I'm a sculptor, actually. I just moved from New York, because of family problems. My gradma, who lives here, is sick, and I wouldn't leave her with a nurse. My mother is currently in France, so I thought I'd come here, instead of making her fly over an ocean." Kate stated. "I can appreciate music, but musical talent is something that I lack. What about you? You're a professional musician or do you have some side career?"

"Ohh," Iona raised an eyebrow. "That's commendable of you to come take care of your grandmother. A sculptor sounds interesting, though." At Kate's question she shook her head, "I was a professional, but am on hiatus and I don't think I'll go full time back into that career. Right now I own a wedding and party planning business. I thought it was time to come back to my family after so long away and try to work on a life."

"Family is family." Kate stated softly. Her gradma was her weak point, and it didn't take much for anyone to see how much she loved her. "Oh, I'm glad you think that way. There are those who think sculptor means "unemployed", and they are not only a few." She joked a little and sipped her vodka. "Wedding and party planning? That must take a lot of patience, I know I wouldn't be able to deal with bridezillas on a regular basis. But it's good, going back and trying to stay on your feet. You should do what you feel like, and not let art become an obligation."

Iona gave Kate a sweet smile, "I can understand, my family is why I moved back, although now they are leaving me." She gave a small laugh, "Well, I think most just think artists, plain and simple, are unemployed, but I don't see what money has to do with it. You have to love what you do, if you can make money doing it, fantastic, if not, you find a way to make money on the side so you can still do what you love." Talking about the wedding and party planning she gave a nod, "Oh yes, lots and lots of patience. I'm not sure where I find it, or where it comes from, but I seem to have a very ample supply of it, though I did want to beat a bridezilla down the other day."
