Leaving - a shadorma

Leaving

Faint sunlight
peaks through the window,
the curtains
barely tied
shift with the cool morning breeze
where a cardinal sings.

Lying here
I watch you sleeping,
so peaceful,
so graceful;
more beautiful than a rose
or the breaking dawn.

Your dark curls
contrasting the glow
of your skin,
smooth and pale;
and brushing them from your face
I pause as you sigh.

Still sleeping
you roll back over,
wrapping up
in the sheets;
I fear waking you again
and ruining the dream.

The words
are difficult to find,
hard to grasp,
hard to say,
and yet harder still to write
down upon the page.

When you wake
all that you will find
are these words
telling you
how much I truly love you,
but how wrong I am.

Looking back
I thought I saw you
standing in
the window,
but it was just the curtains
caught up in the breeze.

Just know that,
I do truly love you;
but, my dear,
you deserve
someone that can give you more
than recycled words.

You deserve
someone that’s better
than a lost,
jaded boy,
hiding behind stolen names
and their broken dreams.

Until the next~
