Made it back fine and will have to think about writing something up after unpacking tomorrow. But for now I think I'm just going to turn on some music and crash for a bit.
It was good and I managed to come away with a few interesting prizes.
Wednesday February 16:
Well after having to be at school for the entire day and dealing with the students, I also spent most of my planning having to hash things out with the front office because there was an issue with the sub finding system and the fact that the code that I was provided to use for my leave wasn’t working; despite having permission for a professional leave for two week prior. But eventually everything worked out and I left to go pick up the county car that I was supposed to take.
The car itself wasn’t too bad, a Ford Taurus, though it lacked a cd player and had an odd smell until I drove with the windows for a bit. But I made the four hour trip without stopping and checked in with relatively no problem; besides having to park a block away and carry everything.
Thursday February 17:
Work up relatively early. Since I didn’t make it in time for registration the previous night, I went down and picked up my badge a program and a few other tid-bits from the Georgia Science Teachers Association. After getting breakfast that was ridiculously expensive since it was in the hotel’s restaurant, I went to the first session which wasn’t too bad. In total I had five workshops/sessions that day. Physics First (About how students should be encouraged to take Physics rather than disbanning most programs.), Chemistry, the natural method (An inquiry based curriculum introduction, with free materials), Disbunking Myths of Science (boring and waste of time), The Periodic Table through inquiry (Same group as the Chemistry one, more free goodies and good ideas), as well as several workshops given by N.A.S.A. I missed having lunch with the rest of the group from my county but we all wound up grabbing dinner together from a bar called High Velocity, which was pretty good and not that expensive since none of us drank.
Friday February 18:
I only went to three sessions this day since one went through two time slots and another was cancelled since the presenter never showed up. Making ESEP Physical Science and Physics Work (a workshop about hand on learning and labs for both inclusion classes and AP physics classes, this is the one that two time slots. But I got a lot of good labs from it.) , Introducing Astronomy to your class (interesting ideas about quick activities and curriculum for astronomy classes), Light and Optics (title says it all, though I did win and walk away with a full light and optics kit including several diffraction grading a prism, numerous light filters, a laser and photo luminescent paper and software.)
Saturday February 19:
Went to two sessions that were pretty much a waste of time, backed up and checked out. Hopping in the car I managed to stop for gas about half way back and got something to eat before finishing the drive and getting to pick up my truck again at last. I remember now why I chose a full size vehicle with how cramped the car was. With how beautiful of a day it was I stopped by the park for a little bit and ran a few errands before coming home and crashing. Not really sure why but I’ve felt pretty drained since coming back.
I really don’t feel like going to work, and didn’t really get too much done today. But here’s to hoping that tomorrow is more productive and that I hear something back from Mississippi since Florida refused to even look at my app.
