Okay, so I had been planning to post a big thing today explaining what Day Of Silence is and what it's about, how it started and why I suport it, all that jazz, but plans have changed. Instaed I'll just say that I really wish there had been stuff like this around when I was in school. It wasn't that long ago, but it's amaizing how projects like ( Read more... )

The HS where Mike works is marking the Day of Silence, but from what I've heard they're just calling it "Gay Pride Day." The sad thing is, a lot of people are keeping their kids home and security is extra tight today because everyone is expecting some sort of trouble over this at some point. ::sigh::

This particular HS is infamous for it's riots and race wars and campus-wide lockdowns, and most of the trouble kids will use any excuse at all to cause more. So we'll see what happens. No one is expecting good things, but you never know. :/

And sorry to hear about the allergies, sis. {{HUGS}}

It's actualy become a pretty big thing up here over the last three years or so, several dozen high schools alone across the state partisipated, but it was only one that got the most attention. Mt. Si HS has the doughter of a Preacher up here who's a total racest and homophobe, he has a history of makeing big scenes, and he acutaly put out adds in the local newspapers state wide asking for people to come protest the kids doing this at the school. And he originaly timed it so that his guys would be there at the same time as the pro-Day of Silence parents would be. Only the Pro-DoS parents got wind of it and moved their support "protest" up to 7am-10am, and the Anti-protesters didn't get there 'til after 11am, long after the Pro guys were gone. And all the schools who had kids partisipating told the parents their kids didn't have to attend at all if they didn't want, any kid who stayed home was excused with a partental note.

That was major news up here. It was estimated that several hundred kids would take part at that school ( ... )
