I never write, I never post, yadda yadda. I'm tired of feeling guilty for it, so MOVING ON!
I'm here to do a bit of crowd-sourcing. Specifically among the bakers of my flists. I decided that for Thanksgiving, I want to invent a new pie, but I'm going back and forth on some of the details of how to put it together and want to run some thoughts past you guys for input.
So I'm going to try making an orange cranberry meringue pie. The basic idea is simple, I'm going to use the same outline as any lemon meringue pie, but, well, use orange and cranberry. But as I said, it's the details that I'm debating, and I don't have the time to do a dozen test pies first as Thanksgiving is a week away.
- Idea one is to go the purely juice rout. I'm thinking a 2:1 OJ:Cran blend.
- Idea two is to do a purely OJ filling and mix in chopped up fresh or dried cranberries into the filling.
- Idea three is a combination of the two, mix the juices *and* toss in some chopped fruit.
After some debate, I decided to keep the marague a classic meringue. I debated doing an almond meringue, but decided to leave that sort of experimentation until I get the basic recipe right a few times first.
So...thoughts? Other ideas? Honestly, guys, toss anything out there. Use fruit? No fruit? Fresh fruit vs dried? Juice or death? I'll take any and all thoughts you have to toss out there with thanks!
