Toronto, one of the least progressive cities in the world (from a construction standpoint) has some of the most complete, most well written, most thoroughly synthesized Environmental Plans in the country. Here's a peek:
http://www.toronto.ca/council/environtf_tie_status_reports.htm Of course, after 6 years, it's only partly implemented. You can come learn about the plan, and pressure our next municipal candidates to READ, RECOGNIZE, and PLEDGE to implement the environmental plan.
Saturday, October 14th, 2006, 11:30am to 3pm. You can also hear Elizabeth May, new leader of the green party, former leader of the Sierra Club of Canada, speak. She's apparently dynamite.

(Note to bring this on topic: there are direct relationships between safe local produce and the health of our local ecosystems. Government elimination of pesticides and pollution in the downtown core, combined with creation of green space on roofs, in parks and beyond, creates opportunity for safe city-grown food for all of us.)
