I adapted this from a youtube video I saw in which they made a 'Big Mac' salad that looked a hot mess.
YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS! You will need:
LETTUCE. You should have a lot of this. I'd use at least a head for the family.
2 Lbs ground beef (this feeds about 4, or one with leftovers for like, half a week)
Seasoning salt (I use Lawry's)
White or red sweet onion, minced
Pickles, sliced
tomato, chopped how you like it. I dice mine.
About 1/2 c. grated cheddar cheese
you should bacon, if you've got it.
Thousand Island Dressing
If you wish:
2 Hamburger buns, chopped into 1-inch cubes, doused with olive oil, garlic powder and a little salt. and baked for about 10-15 mins at 350.
Take your beef and unsheathe it from it's tubey origin. If you don't get tubed ground chuck, whatever, just make a bunch of sliders. With the tube I find it easy to just chop it up into 1-inch rounds and then quarter those for easy portioning. I figure I want mine to be kind of poker-chip sized, or big enough to fit into the crook of my thumb with a little space. Make sure when making your patties to depress the middle, as they tend to swell up, I season them with the seasoning salt and then lay them in a pan and cook for about 4-5 mins a side. Test them with a thermometer, if you're nervous, but I like mine to be a little pink.
Finely dice a 1/4 onion and if it has too much bite, soak in ice water for 10 minutes, this removes the burning and leaves you with a nice sweet onion flavour.
Prepare the rest of your ingredients, keeping them separate until you are ready to eat, or prepare this in containers as you would any jarred salad, with dressing on the bottom, followed by meat, onion, tomato, pickles, cheese then lettuce on top. Keep croutouns separate until serving.
This makes a damn-fine salad. The sliders are just cute. You could just break the beef up like you would to prepare tacos, but it's a presentation thing, seems slightly nicer to have little salad-sliders.
