Aaargh! Assignments came out today and I remembered I'd never got around to writing my letter to you. I hope you didn't dash straight here looking for it.
Many thanks for writing me a Yuletide fic. I know I'll love it, because if you've matched one of my fandoms we must have something in common!
It's been a manic year for me, and the past few months have been fairly stressful. Subconsciously I think this filtered into my requests, because looking back at them I've asked for cheerful stuff even in gloomier fandoms. If nothing else, dear author, it would be lovely to have something that makes me smile. Not laugh outright, necessarily, but at least leave me with that warm fuzzy feeling from reading something lovely. It doesn't need to be fluffy cute kittens or anything, just warm, something good about life.
1) Discworld: Terry Pratchett's a genius. His most genius thing I think though is the strength of his characters, and if you pull off his characters I will be very impressed and grateful. Guards or witches are my favourites, and I possibly have a little crush on both Carrot and Vimes in their different ways.
2) Red Dwarf: I'd forgotten until they started airing series X recently how much I adored this show when I was younger, and how much I still adore it. It's human nature, on a spaceship three million years out. It's the classic sitcom stuff that works so well, how the characters bounce off each other.
3) Matilda: something happy for Matilda is what I asked for. She's such a nice little girl really, and her love of books is something which I've always identified with.
4) Earthsea: going to a new place is always scary, but surely it's more nerve-wracking when it's somewhere like Roke? I'd love an insight into that nervousness, and how a student might overcome it.
Thank you, dear author, and happy Yule to you!
