Dear Yuletide author ...

Nov 20, 2011 16:00

I've been a bit busy, so signed up rather at the last minute without having had a chance to think very much about what I wanted to read. As a result I've rather gone back to nostalgia, picking two of my favourite books/series and then being unable to resist the lure of Being Human. I've left the prompts vague, if they fail to inspire you please feel free to go for something else.

As you'll see from this journal I've tended to lurch from one major fandom to another in recent years. LOTR gave way to Pirates, which gave way to Doctor Who, with the occasional dabble in other things as they grab me. I like writing (and reading) gapfillery stuff. I dislike the term "fix-it", preferring to offer alternative possibilities if they present themselves. I don't tend to read or write slash, though I don't have a violent objection to it. I do really like canon relationships or friendships written well. Characterisation is key, for me.

1) Wolves Chronicles - Joan Aiken

I have always loved Joan Aiken's Wolves Chronicles. My copy of The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is rather battered these days. Particularly, I've always loved Simon's story. But the poor thing is so serious all the time, so it would be nice to see him having fun - and Wally seems an ideal chap to have fun with.

2) Magids Series - Diana Wynne Jones

I lost my copy of Deep Secret at some point and have yet to replace it, which makes me sad. I think it's a masterpiece. But I do wonder how Rupert reacted when he first found out he was a Magid ...

3) Being Human

Quite the best new TV series to come along for a while. I'm British, so am talking very much about the BBC version and NOT the US one, which I haven't seen. The story's so centred on the three main characters, and I think it would be fascinating to have a glimpse into their pasts - when they were, really, being human.

Many thanks! Happy Yuletide.
